Meet Phil S. Ragtime historian, authorized biographer of Charles Leslie Johnson, collector, and educator. Phil is the author of The Music of Charles Leslie Johnson: A Collector's Journey, Rags and Other Riches: Instrumental Selections of Charles Leslie Johnson, and A Songbook of Charles Leslie Johnson: War and Other Pieces. Phil's trio of books preserves for all time the prolific and versatile talent of this composer, musician, and icon of the Ragtime era.
Phil researched the man and his music for nearly twenty years before putting his pen to paper. He began printing his book in 1991 and sold it on eBay before bringing it to Aquila Media Productions. This remarkable series of books chronicles the music of Charles Leslie Johnson, a Kansas City composer during the Ragtime era. Experts feel that had Johnson lived and worked in New York, he would rank beside Scott Joplin and James Scott as one of the great composers of the era. In addition, each music piece in The Music of Charles Leslie Johnson is depicted in full color, making it a volume of art history as well as a documentation of the man and his music.
Aquila Media Productions not only published Phil's books, but we also created and maintain the Charles Leslie Johnson website, the only site completely devoted to this composer and his music. For further information click HERE.
All three of these books are available at amazon.com or your favorite online bookseller. Click below.
